1. In this lesson, I taught the children the topics “Which country are you from?” and “Where do you live?” I played a related video on YouTube https://youtu.be/YlpTKhFJUfw?si=tYLyqpXXFH73Y3WU , and we practiced the content together while watching it. To help the children better recognize different countries, I specially prepared many small national flags, such as Australia, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, and France. Then, I asked the children to hold the flags and pretend to be someone from that country. For example, I would ask, “Little [Name], which country are you from?” and the child would hold up the flag and pretend to say, “I’m from [Country].” This game was very interactive. After the game, I transitioned the lesson to the topic of how to protect the Earth, because although we come from different countries, we all live on the same planet, so protecting it is very important.
2. I encouraged them to think about ways we can help the environment in our daily lives. They were all very enthusiastic and gave thoughtful answers.
Here are some examples:
1. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth because water is a limited resource.
2. Don’t waste paper—use it sparingly, since paper is made from trees, which provide us with oxygen.
3. Use eco-friendly reusable bags instead of plastic ones, as plastic is non-biodegradable.
4. Sort your waste and don’t litter—this helps with recycling and reusing materials.
5. Walk whenever possible instead of driving to reduce air pollution.
6. When playing outdoors, throw trash in bins or take it home to avoid harming the natural
environment and animals.
7. Grow plants and flowers at home to provide a better ecological environment for living things.
8. Place bird feeders at home and feed birds in winter so they won’t go hungry.
9. Drink water from a reusable bottle instead of plastic bottles to reduce secondary plastic
pollution.
3. DIY Craft: Making “Mr. Octopus”
Materials: Recycled plastic water or milk bottles, pom-poms, colored markers, pipe cleaners, scissors, glue stick, double-sided tape, small plastic eyes, and colored card paper.
Process: Use colorful pipe cleaners to twist into curved shapes for the octopus legs, then fix them around the halfway point of the bottle using double-sided tape. Stick them all around to create a full set of legs. Decorate with colorful pom-poms. Then, freely stick on the small plastic eyes. You can cut wave shapes from card paper to wrap around the bottle for decoration or cut a circle and stick it under the cap as a brim for a hat. Finally, draw your favorite patterns with markers to complete your design.
4. Homework
