This week, we are focusing on reading and writing fundamental Chinese strokes. These strokes include:
Tí (提) – “Raise”
Piě (撇) – “Throw away, slant”
Nà (捺) – “Pressing forcefully”
During our class, we have been practicing reading and writing these strokes, and it’s great to see that our children are enjoying the challenges of writing Chinese. At the same time, they may find it a bit confusing because some strokes look similar.
It’s crucial for children at this stage to learn the correct strokes for writing as it lays the foundation for their ability to write more complicated Chinese characters in the future. Let’s continue practicing, and they will eventually find it easy to write and remember!
From the six strokes we’ve learned, our children can already write some characters. For example, “六” is made from the strokes 点 (diǎn), 横 (héng), Piě (撇), and then the stroke 点 (diǎn). “八” is made from the strokes Piě (撇) and Nà (捺).

Practice the Chinese New Year poem and songs for the performance on February 4th.
Allow the children to watch a video about Chinese Zodiac animals so they can learn which animals they are. We will discuss this in the next class
