1. We did finger rhythmic exercises before class: use their fingers to make “scissors/rock/paper”, follow the music rhythm and finger rhythmic exercises, do the finger exercise to help hand flexibility and brain thinking. Review :we learned to recognize the names of animals before: dog, cat, panda, turtle, cow, sheep, horse. Today, we reviewed the Chinese characters of these animals and asked students to recognize, read, and listen. According to the things that appear in the video and pictures, recognize each animal and read the name of each animal loudly.
2. New content in this lesson: continue to learn the names of animals: birds, chickens, geese, pigs, ducks, rabbits, tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes, penguins. Through the shadow matching game, let the children guess which animals there are based on the shadows of these animals? Please say the noun of each animal loudly, describe the colour and quantity of the animal, and whether it is big or small? For example: Which animal’s shadow is this? This is a white bunny/this is a pink pig/this is a gray elephant/this is a yellow duck/this is a big yellow tiger/this is a yellow lion/this is a gray and white penguin/this is a white chicken/this is a black and white giant panda/this is a green turtle/this is a black horse; and so on. The focus of this lesson is to be able to identify and say the name of the animal when seeing the picture, describe the colours and quantities.
3. Writing practice: Review the Chinese characters written in the last class – 牛/羊/马; the new Chinese characters learned in this class: 鸟/鸡, use 6 Chinese character strokes: 撇/横撇/点/横折钩/竖折折钩/横. The strokes of this Chinese character are difficult and there are many strokes. Children only need to master how to write the word “鸟” correctly.
4. Knowledge expansion: Introduce that the Chinese zodiac consists of 12 animals, namely rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, chicken, dog, and pig. Because 2025 is the year of the snake, let the children choose their favorite coloured tissue paper in class, cut any shape they like, make a “snake” they like, and paste colourful tissue paper. Cutting paper can strengthen hand movements and deepen and consolidate the understanding of colors.
5. Homework: Parents can let children deepen their understanding of animals through the games linked below.
