Today in class we focused on learning food names.
I started by asking the kids: “What’s your favorite food?” They couldn’t wait to answer! Then I brought out a box of toy foods and asked them to pick out the ones they liked best.

While answering, I encouraged them to say the food names in English, and also to try saying them in Chinese. We went through lots of everyday foods together, like apples, bananas, pears, oranges, kiwis, watermelon, tomatoes, carrots, hot dogs, milk, pizza, French fries, crisps, hamburgers, honey, ice cream, chicken drumsticks, chicken wings, apple juice, orange juice, chocolate, cereal, and so on.

After that, we moved on to describing food textures.
I asked the children to match different foods with how they taste or feel, and here are some examples:
• Crunchy → carrot
• Crispy → crisps
• Soft → doughnut
• Creamy → ice cream
• Chewy → marshmallow
• Squishy → baked beans
• Juicy → orange
• Sticky → honey

Craft time:
For this activity, we used paper plates, a printed sheet of food pictures, glue, and scissors. The children cut out their favorite foods and glued them onto their plates, making their own “meal.” This gave them good practice with scissors and also made learning food words more fun and engaging.

Homework:
I’d like parents to help their kids get a first idea about the Mid-Autumn Festival. You could talk about things like:
• When is the Mid-Autumn Festival?
• What do we usually do and eat on that day?
• How is the festival connected with the moon?
