Today’s lesson was about the four seasons of the year—spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

We first reviewed that there are four seasons in a year, each lasting about three months:
• Spring: March to May
• Summer: June to August
• Autumn: September to November
• Winter: December to February

Spring is the first season of the year. Everything comes back to life, flowers bloom, and it symbolizes the birth of new life. Buds on the trees begin to open, and animals such as tadpoles, chicks, ducklings, and lambs appear. The weather in spring is changeable, with sunny days and rainy days.

Summer comes after spring and before autumn. Summer has the longest daylight hours, up to 16 hours. To protect our skin and eyes, we should use sunscreen, wear sunglasses and sun hats, and drink plenty of water to stay healthy. Because it is very hot, we wear short-sleeved shirts, skirts, shorts, and sandals to keep cool. Summer is also a time for many fun activities, such as eating ice cream, having picnics at the beach, swimming, playing in the sand, and camping. We can also see flowers in full bloom and busy insects, like bees and butterflies.

Autumn is the season of harvest. The leaves gradually turn yellow, and farmers harvest crops to store and sell. Autumn also has special festivals:
• Mid-Autumn Festival: Families gather to celebrate, eating mooncakes and enjoying the moon and lanterns.
• Halloween: Children dress up in different costumes, carry little baskets, and go door-to-door to collect candy. If neighbors don’t give candy, the children may play small tricks.

Winter is the last season of the year. Daylight is shortest, and nights are longest. The weather is cold, so we wear wooly hats, gloves, scarves, thick coats, sweaters, and boots. Trees lose their leaves, animals hibernate, and we can see snow, frost, and ice. When it snows, the world is covered in white, and children can build snowmen or have snowball fights. The main festival in winter is Christmas. In the UK, children can also visit Winter Wonderland to enjoy rides, hot drinks, and traditional foods.

Next, I read the story “Sally’s Seasons” to help the children understand the characteristics of each season. After the story, we played a clothing matching game, where children chose the correct clothes and accessories for different seasonal scenes. The children really enjoyed this game, thinking actively and eagerly participating.

Art Time

Today’s art activity was to create a Four Seasons Picture: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
• Materials: Oil pastels, colored markers, A4 paper
• Steps:
1. Fold the A4 paper in half, then fold both sides along the middle line to create four equally sized vertical rectangles.
2. Draw four trees according to your imagination, each representing a season.
3. Use different colors to show the characteristics of each season, for example:
• Spring: Pink tones, colorful and lively
• Summer: Green tones, full of life
• Autumn: Golden tones, representing harvest
• Winter: Blue tones, covered in snow

Homework

Please ask your child to tell their parents:
1. Which months correspond to spring, summer, autumn, and winter
2. What special festivals we celebrate in each season
