Today’s lesson focused on discussing likes and dislikes. First, I showed the children a series of pictures, each with three options. I asked them to describe the activities shown in the pictures in Chinese and choose the correct answer. Then, they used the sentence patterns “They are… / He is… / She is…” to complete the activity descriptions. For example:
• They are having lunch.
• They are watching TV.
• They are singing.
• They are building a sandcastle.
• They are making a snowman.
• They are playing football.
• She is jumping.
• They are swimming.
• They are shopping.
• He is riding a bike.
• She is brushing her teeth.
• They are walking their dog.
• She is getting dressed.
• She is drawing.

Next, I showed the children lots of pictures and drew a chart on the board with two columns: “Like” and “Don’t Like.” The pictures included: music, horses, dark clouds, helping others, chocolate, milk, lightning, vegetables, running, and ladybugs. I asked each student whether they liked these things and encouraged them to make complete sentences using “I like…” and “I don’t like…”. Soon, the entire chart was filled with their answers.

To review the content, we played a “pass-the-parcel” game. I played a song, and when the music stopped, the child holding the object had to make a sentence such as “I like chocolate” or “I don’t like dark clouds.” This activity helped strengthen their memory and review what they had learned.

I also designed another game called “Act and Guess.” I was the one performing the actions, and I acted out different movements for the children to guess the word I had in mind. This game was very successful—it created a lively classroom atmosphere and strengthened the children’s vocabulary retention.

Homework:
Make sentences using “I like…” and “I don’t like…,” and share them with your parents.
