In this class, we mainly focused on the numbers 1 to 10. First, I told the children a dinosaur story called “Dinosaur, Dinosaur, Where Are You?” On each page, different types of dinosaurs appear, hiding in the forest, caves, or behind bushes. Through continuous questioning, searching, and discovery, the children get to know various dinosaurs and can also count them, which increases the interaction between the story and the children.

After counting the numbers, we officially learned how to write Chinese numbers. Writing Chinese numbers is very different from Arabic numerals. Although we had learned them before, we still reviewed them to help strengthen the children’s memory. We went through how to write numbers from one to ten. I also prepared a writing chart filled with Chinese characters and numbers within ten that we had learned previously. For example: 人 (person), 大 (big), 口 (mouth), 小 (small), 山 (mountain), 中 (middle), 日 (sun), 月 (moon), 三 (three), 六 (six), 七 (seven), etc.

In the second half of the class, we learned about Chinese New Year. First, I introduced that the zodiac for 2026 is the Year of the Horse. I also asked each child about their zodiac sign. I explained that during the Spring Festival, people do many things, such as: spring cleaning, family gatherings, wearing red clothes, elders giving red envelopes to younger ones, putting up spring couplets, setting off firecrackers, and watching fireworks.
1. Spring cleaning: By cleaning the house, we remove the bad luck of the past year and welcome good fortune in the new year.
2. Family gatherings: Families come together to share meals, enhancing warmth and closeness.
3. Elders giving red envelopes to children: Symbolizes passing on blessings and good luck, wishing children healthy growth.
4. Putting up spring couplets: Decorating doors and windows with auspicious words to bring luck and happiness.
5. Setting off firecrackers: Drives away evil spirits and welcomes a lively and festive new year.
6. Watching fireworks: Celebrates the joy of the festival and symbolizes a bright and happy future.

Homework:
Parents, please continue practicing the song “Gong Xi Fa Cai” with your children. Let’s become familiar with the lyrics and master the movements so that we can have an excellent performance at the Spring Festival celebration.
