Course Review
In this lesson, we explored a vivid and engaging topic—“Seasons and Life.” At the beginning of the class, the teacher introduced the four seasons of the year—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—in a relaxed and interesting way. Students followed along, reading and speaking together, and were soon able to confidently say, “There are four seasons in a year!” Some students even used their fingers to show the number four, and the classroom atmosphere quickly became lively and energetic.
To help students better remember the characteristics of each season, the teacher guided everyone to “add colors” to them: spring is green because the grass turns green and flowers bloom; summer is red because the sun is strong and the weather is hot; autumn is yellow because the leaves turn yellow; and winter is white because it snows. Through this vivid and visual approach, students not only remembered the vocabulary but also formed clear mental images.
Next, we learned many expressions related to weather, such as “hot,” “cold,” “warm,” and “cool,” as well as verbs like “to rain” and “to snow.” The teacher also led the class in practicing sentences like, “The weather is nice today.” Some students even tried to make their own sentences, such as “Today is very cold” or “I am very hot.” One student jokingly said, “I’m dying of heat,” which made everyone laugh and created a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Then, we explored each of the four seasons and discussed what interesting activities can be done in each one.
In spring, we learned phrases like “flowers bloom” and “the grass turns green,” and talked about going to the park, flying kites, and going on spring outings. Students shared their own experiences, such as visiting parks or enjoying flowers.
In summer, we learned expressions like “the sun is strong” and “to sweat,” and also new words like “air conditioner” and “watermelon.” When the teacher mentioned that “eating watermelon is the best way to cool down,” many students nodded and smiled in agreement.
In autumn, the weather becomes “cool,” and the leaves turn yellow. We also learned about the Mid-Autumn Festival, including eating mooncakes and watching the moon. When the teacher asked, “Have you ever eaten mooncakes?” some students responded enthusiastically, making the class more interactive.
In winter, we learned how to say “very cold” and “it snows,” and talked about activities like building snowmen and eating hotpot. When hotpot was mentioned, many students looked excited, and the classroom felt especially warm and lively.
During the speaking practice, the classroom turned into a small communication space. The teacher and students asked each other questions like, “Which season do you like best?” and “Which season do you dislike?” Students took turns answering: some liked spring because they could go বাইরে and have fun, some liked winter because they could play in the snow, and others disliked summer because it was too hot. Through this kind of interaction, students felt more comfortable speaking Chinese in a relaxed environment.
In addition to language learning, the lesson also introduced interesting aspects of Chinese culture. For example, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, people eat mooncakes and admire the moon, while during the Spring Festival, people celebrate the New Year, receive red envelopes, and have family reunions. The teacher also explained the differences between northern and southern China, such as the presence of indoor heating in the north and the colder indoor conditions in the south. These insights helped students gain a more authentic understanding of life in China.
Through this lesson, students not only learned vocabulary related to seasons and weather but also gained the ability to express their preferences and feelings using simple sentences. Through listening, speaking, and reading activities, they gradually built confidence in using Chinese to talk about everyday life.
Overall, this was a rich and engaging lesson with a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Through activities like “looking, speaking, thinking, and playing,” students learned happily and improved through interaction. It is believed that in future learning, students will be able to apply what they have learned in real-life situations, making their Chinese more natural and more interesting.
