Chinese Class Summary
1. Dictation

We had a Chinese dictation exercise in class, covering:

Chinese numbers
Chinese characters learned in Lesson 2

Students are encouraged to continue reviewing the vocabulary and characters from previous lessons to strengthen their recognition and writing.

2. Learning the use of “零” (líng)

We learned how to use 零 (líng), meaning zero, when reading numbers.

Students practised reading numbers that contain 0 and should continue practising so that they can confidently recognise and pronounce 零 correctly.

3. New vocabulary

We learned the following words and expressions:

足 zú — foot
少 shǎo — few; less; to lack; to be missing
多少 duō shao — how many; how much
不少 bù shǎo — many; quite a lot
少不了 shǎo bu liǎo — cannot do without; unavoidable
少见 shǎo jiàn — rare; uncommon
少有 shǎo yǒu — rare; infrequent
多 duō — many; much; often; a lot of; more
4. Opposites

We reviewed two pairs of opposite words:

大 — 小
big — small

多 — 少
many/much — few/little

5. Question words

We practised using:

多大?duō dà? — How big? / How old?
多小?duō xiǎo? — How small?
多少?duō shao? — How many? / How much?

Students practised making their own sentences using these question words.

6. Radicals

We learned the 足字旁 (⻊), the foot radical, and looked at characters such as:

踢、踩、跑、跳、踏

We also reviewed two previously learned radicals:

扌 — 手旁 — hand radical
亻 — 人旁 — person radical

Learning radicals helps students recognise the structure of Chinese characters and understand connections between characters.

Key points to review at home

Please focus on:

Reading Chinese numbers, especially numbers containing 0
The opposites 大/小 and 多/少
Using 多少、多大、多小
The new vocabulary learned this week
