看到“三点水”,就可能和水有关;

DIY:
《The Magic Radicals》Class Review
Today, our little learners entered the fun world of “Hanzi Detectives” and explored the lesson: 《The Magic Radicals》. The children not only learned new Chinese characters, but also discovered how radicals can help us uncover the “secret clues” hidden inside Chinese characters. They experienced how Chinese characters can be as interesting as pictures!
In this lesson, we focused on:
• What are radicals?
• How can radicals help us understand Chinese characters?
The children discovered that many Chinese characters share common parts. These parts work like “hint cards” that help us guess the meaning of a character.
For example:
• When we see the “Three-Dot Water” radical (氵), the character is often related to water or liquids.
• When we see the “Single Person” radical (亻), the character is usually related to people.
During class, the children carefully observed, guessed meanings, and searched for clues like little detectives. Everyone participated very actively!

【What We Learned in Class】
💧 1. Three-Dot Water Radical (氵)
This radical is related to water or liquids.
We learned:
海 (sea)
河 (river)
洗 (wash)
汁 (juice)
The children understood:
“There is lots of water in the sea, so 海 has the water radical.”
“We use water to wash our hands, so 洗 also has the water radical.”
When the teacher asked,
“Is juice a liquid?”
the children excitedly raised their hands to answer!
Through observation, the children began building connections between radicals and meanings.
————————————
👦 2. Single Person Radical (亻)
This radical is related to people.
We learned:
你 (you)
他 (he)
休 (rest)
The children noticed:
“你” and “他” both refer to people, so they use the person radical.
The most interesting character was:
休 (rest)
“It looks like a person leaning against a tree to rest.”
The children were surprised and excited, saying:
“It really looks like someone sleeping beside a tree!”
Using visual imagination helps children understand Chinese characters more easily.
————————————
👧 3. Woman Radical (女)
This radical is related to women or family members.
We learned:
妈 (mom)
姐 (older sister)
妹 (younger sister)
奶 (grandma/milk)
她 (she)
The children discovered:
“Mom is female, so 妈 has the woman radical.”
“Older sister, younger sister, and grandma also use the woman radical.”

DIY Activity:
【DIY 3D Paper Cactus】
🌵 Materials:
• Colored cardstock paper
• Green cardstock paper
• Child-safe scissors
• Glue or double-sided tape
• Colored markers
• Paper cup (for the flower pot)
——————————
🌵 Steps:
1️⃣ Make the flower pot
Wrap green paper around a paper cup to create a small flower pot.
2️⃣ Cut out the cactus shapes
Draw different cactus shapes on colored paper and cut them out.
3️⃣ Decorate the cactus
Use markers to draw lines, dots, and cactus spikes.
4️⃣ Assemble the cactus
Glue the cactus pieces into the flower pot, arranging them at different heights for a 3D effect.

Homework:
Parents can play a fun “Radical Detective Game” with children at home!
For example:
When seeing the character “洗” (wash) on hand soap, ask:
“Why does it have the water radical?”
When seeing “妈” (mom), ask:
“Why does it use the woman radical?”
These small daily conversations can help children build stronger connections with Chinese characters in a fun and natural way.
