Teaching Content
1. Dictation practice of characters
Today’s dictation covered: 今, 天, 下, 雨, 雪, 风, 冷, 上, 口, 日, 月, 明, 田, 电; 春天, 大, 小, 木, 林, 森, 人, 入; and 一, 二, 三, 四, 五, 六, 七, 八, 九, 十.
We continued with the daily Chinese conversation review before class, and reviewed the four seasons and the characters learned in the previous lesson: 热 (hot), 凉快 (cool), 冷 (cold), 暖和 (warm), together with the sentence patterns “夏天热, 冬天冷, 秋天凉快, 春天暖和” (Summer is hot, winter is cold, autumn is cool, spring is warm). Students also practiced recognizing the flashcards and saying the days of the week from Monday (星期一) to Sunday (星期日).
2. New content in this lesson
We continued with Lesson 2 of Chinese Paradise (汉语乐园) Book 3A, expanding the practice of these sentence patterns:
• 今天星期几? (What day is it today?)
• 今天天气怎么样? (What’s the weather like today?)
• 今天晴天 / 下雨 / 刮风 / 下雪 / 阴天 (Today it is sunny / rainy / windy / snowy / cloudy.)
• 你喝什么? 我喝牛奶、水、果汁、可乐、茶…… (What do you drink? I drink milk, water, juice, cola, tea…)
• 一年几个季节? 春夏秋冬 (How many seasons are there in a year? Spring, summer, autumn, winter.) 春天暖和, 夏天热, 冬天冷, 秋天凉快 (Spring is warm, summer is hot, winter is cold, autumn is cool.)
Students repeatedly practiced recognizing and reading characters using the flashcards. We continued watching the video “今天天气怎么样?” (What’s the weather like today?). The text reading practice strengthened students’ ability to recognize characters and use the sentence patterns. We also continued learning the song “今天天气怎么样” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khIzHuehRuM).

Homework

2. Read the text and characters of Lesson 2 in Book 3A again.
3. Practice writing the new characters: 夏, 热 秋, 冬, 天, 云.
